Wadley Regional Medical Center at Hope will be hosting its first annual Health Fair – Health Matters

Hope, Arkansas: Wadley Regional Medical Center in conjunction with UACCH Nursing program will present the first annual Health Matters community health and fitness fair on May 2nd from 10 am – 2 pm at Hempstead Hall. The health and fitness event will offer something for everyone. There will be booths with educational information, screenings and demonstrations.

The Wadley Scan will be on-site providing simple, non-invasive vascular screenings to provide participants with information about circulation and risk of heart disease and stroke for $39.95. Appointments can be made by calling 877-792-3539. We will have a drawing for a free scan.

The Sheriff’s Department will have a deputy on-site for a Drug Take Back event. It’s a great time to clean out your medicine cabinet! Protect our kids, families and environment by properly disposing of your unwanted and expired medicines. Medicines in the home are a leading cause of accidental poisoning and flushed or trashed medicines can end up polluting our waters. Rates of prescription drug abuse are alarmingly high – over half of teens abusing medicines get them from a family member or friend, including the home medicine cabinet, and often without their knowledge.

There will be a pharmacist on hand to ask questions about your medications. You are encouraged to bring your meds or a list of meds to review with the pharmacist.

There will be multiple free screenings such as cholesterol, glucose, PSA, blood pressure, vision, diabetic risk assessments, COPD screening, and clinical breast exams will be performed by Yolanda Bone, NP from 10 am to 12 noon. There will be CPR demonstrations throughout the day by the UACCH nursing students. Nancy Bailey with Area Agency on Aging in Southwest Arkansas will be demonstrating Tai Chi for Arthritis and we hope to have a class schedule for Hope to hand out. Lacey Haney with the Wadley Rural Health Clinic will be demonstrating Golden Beats and Drums Alive and again, we will be handing out schedules of classes. There will be a cooking demonstration at noon.

There are presentations by Dr. Ram and Dr. Pace. Dr. Ram is the cardiologist who offices in Hope two days a week and Dr. Pace will be coming on board at the Wadley Rural Health Center in August. Katherine Kee is the Social Worker for Golden Care and she will be talking about Dementia signs and symptoms. Below is the list of booths as well as the Schedule of Events.
